As part of our regular employee information, we had a special surprise guest this time: gold medalist in the 100m breaststroke at the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics
Elena Semechin.
After winning the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics (which, as we all know, didn't take place until 2021), she felt she was at the top of her game before the next challenge came crashing down on her in the form of a brain tumor. But just a few months after the tumor operation, Elena Semechin competed again at the 2022 World Paralympic Swimming Championships in Madeira and achieved a sensational 2nd place despite the follow-up treatment.
Our managing director, Oliver Blamberger, had recently become aware of the exceptional athlete in a television interview and immediately pulled out all the stops to invite Elena Semechin to Compact Dynamics. On July 14, 2022, she visited Compact Dynamics and also answered the questions of our employees.
Elena Semechin talked about her career and the almost complete blindness, but also how she came to swim and about the "jump into the deep end", because she does not necessarily describe herself as a "water rat" and has to overcome herself every day to go into the water to train.
For us, it was a great opportunity to experience a world-class athlete and personality up close and let ourselves be taken in by the positive energy Elena exudes. A multitude of questions, autograph requests and a joint group picture at the end of the visit testify to the great interest of our colleagues.
Thank you very much for your visit, Elena!
In course of the Estonia Rally, FIA offered an education program for Estonian engineering students to understand the opportunities of working in racing, especially in Rally.
Most of these students are already engaged in Formula Student and were invited by FIA to visit Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, Hyundai Motorsports and M-Sport in the service park of the Estonia Rally.
Our colleagues Johannes and Christopher were available during the event via video conference to explain, discuss and answer questions about the hybrid system.
This was the first event of FIA to engage with education in the host nations of the WRC events and we really enjoyed the discussions and the curiosity of the students and also explaining, why it is so special to work in motorsports.
Compact Dynamics is the sole supplier of the hybrid system of WRC Rally1 cars.
Recently, we had a personal conversation with David Evans of @Dirtfish, who wanted to get a closer look at @compactdynamics and the team behind in regard of the sole supply of the hybrid system for FIA´s World Rally Championship WRC 2022.
Thanks for stepping by, David!

Compact Dynamics, a Starnberg, Germany-based wholly owned subsidiary of global automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler, has been appointed by the FIA World Motor Sport Council as the exclusive supplier of the hybrid system to be used in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). The innovative hybrid technology will be used in the new Rally1 vehicle category for an initial period of three years, starting with the 2022 season. Compact Dynamics was selected following an extensive tendering process that drew a strong field of bids from the world’s leading suppliers. The company’s high-performance P3-topology hybrid system accommodates the motor-generator unit, control unit and battery in an extremely compact design envelope, thereby delivering maximum power density and meeting the FIA’s exacting requirements. The battery for the hybrid system is supplied by Compact Dynamics partner Kreisel Electric, based in Rainbach, Germany. Development work on the hybrid system for the FIA is already underway, and initial vehicle testing is planned for 2021.
“We are extremely proud of Compact Dynamics’s appointment as an exclusive FIA supplier,” commented Dr. Jochen Schröder, President of Schaeffler’s E-Mobility business division. “Compact Dynamics has been working with us since 2015 to develop the electric race-car drives that go with various other Schaeffler components in the highly successful systems we have been supplying for FIA Formula E vehicles. The know-how we gain from our involvement in motor sport feeds directly into the production-ready development of new technologies in areas such as electric axles, hybrid transmissions and electric motors for electric drive systems. Our involvement in the FIA World Rally Championship will further enhance this effect.”
Compact Dynamics Managing Director Oliver Blamberger shares this sentiment. “We are a specialist developer and supplier of innovative electric drive systems with key strengths in high-performance drives. Over the years, this has enabled us to carve out a niche in motor sport series such as FIA Formula 1, LeMans Prototype Class 1 and FIA Formula E. Our appointment by the FIA World Motor Sport Council is another milestone in this success story. We are delighted at this opportunity to prove the performance of our products at the highest level of rally car racing.”

Compact Dynamics' time as the exclusive series supplier of the FIA's hybrid system for the WRC rallies from 2022 to 2024 will unfortunately come to an end with the abolition of the hybrid unit in the Rally1 cars from 2025.
Many thanks to the teams of Hyundai Motor Company, Toyota Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company/M-Sport, to the WRC Promoter GmbH and to the FIA World Rally Championship for the good cooperation.
